from a landlord, what steps can I take to prevent myself from losing the money I have given to the owner of the property in the case they are not paying their mortgage? Recently, I have seen many people I know pay their deposits and rent on time to only to receive a letter from the bank saying the property has been foreclosed and they must move. But they do not have the money to move into a new place. Would it be too much to ask the landlord for a monthly statement showing that they are current on their mortgage? Landlords, would you be willing to comply with that request? I just think that if the landlord wants my credit info, criminal background, deposit, lease agreement to safeguard their property, then they too should provide me some type of safeguard that the property will be available for the leased term. My BF says that's too much, but is it really in this economy? Thanks for your advice.
